Rescue Crews Search Rubble After Deadly Airstrike
BAALBEK, Lebanon โ An Israeli airstrike on a four-storey residential building killed at least four people and wounded six others in the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek, Lebanonโs state news agency NNA reported.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene and began searching for survivors trapped beneath the rubble. Civil defense workers used heavy machinery and their hands to pull families from the collapsed structure, while ambulances transported the wounded to nearby hospitals.
The strike marked a sharp escalation in hostilities along the Lebanese-Israeli border. Earlier this week, Hezbollah fired drones and missiles at Israel, triggering intensified exchanges. Since Monday, the Iran-aligned group has launched additional rockets, and Israel has responded with waves of airstrikes across Lebanon. Israeli forces have also deployed ground troops into southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah Rockets Target Israeli Forces Near Frontier
Meanwhile, Hezbollah said on Wednesday that it fired rockets at a gathering of Israeli forces near the frontier. The group described the attack as retaliation for Israeli strikes inside Lebanon.
In response, Israel warned residents in 16 Lebanese villages to evacuate, stating that Hezbollah activity in those areas forced it to take military action. The evacuation alerts heightened fears of broader displacement across the south.
Lebanonโs Health Ministry said Israeli strikes have killed at least 50 people and wounded 335 others since the latest escalation began. As tensions mount, residents on both sides of the border brace for further violence, and humanitarian agencies warn that continued fighting could deepen the crisis.
