The Israel Defense Forces said Thursday it killed Ali Yusuf Harshi, a close aide to Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, during an airstrike in Beirut. According to the military, Harshi served as Qassemโs personal secretary, nephew, and senior advisor, playing a key role in managing and securing his office.
Moreover, Israeli forces carried out a broader wave of strikes targeting Hezbollah infrastructure across Lebanon. Overnight operations hit key crossings used by operatives moving between areas north and south of the Litani River. The military also reported striking around 10 weapons depots, launchers, and command centers in southern Lebanon.
Ground Operations Expand Across Southern Regions
Meanwhile, Israeli ground forces intensified their presence in southern Lebanon. Troops from the 401st Brigade discovered a tunnel shaft leading to an underground site, where they engaged and killed a militant in close combat. Inside, soldiers uncovered weapons including rockets, explosives, RPG launchers, and grenades.
In addition, the 215th Fire Brigade reportedly killed more than 70 Hezbollah fighters, including a unit preparing mortar fire. Paratroopers operating under the 98th Division conducted further raids, targeting dozens of operatives and locating hidden weapons caches.
Consequently, forces expanded into new areas to establish operational control and strengthen defensive positions along Israelโs northern border.
Largest Strike Wave Signals Escalation
Furthermore, the military described recent actions as the largest coordinated wave of strikes since the start of ongoing operations, hitting over 100 Hezbollah targets across Beirut. Officials said these actions aim to degrade Hezbollahโs capabilities and remove threats to Israeli civilians.
However, the escalation comes amid uncertainty over ceasefire terms announced by Donald Trump. While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists Lebanon is not included, conflicting interpretations continue to fuel tensions.
