Israeli occupation forces launched a series of attacks on mosques in the West Bank city of Nablus following Friday prayers, including setting the historic Al-Nasr Mosque ablaze, according to reports by Al Jazeera.
Eyewitnesses stated that Israeli troops stormed the Al-Nasr Mosque, desecrating its sanctity and causing extensive damage. The forces deliberately set the mosque on fire, blocking firefighters from extinguishing the blaze.
The fire destroyed the prayer leader’s chamber, and the mosque’s doors, walls, and carpets were reduced to ashes, witnesses reported.
The Palestinian Ministry of Religious Affairs condemned the attacks on the mosques in Nablus, particularly the intentional burning of Al-Nasr Mosque, calling it a clear violation of religious, moral, and international principles. Al-Nasr Mosque, a significant historical landmark in Nablus, was originally a Roman-era church before being converted into a mosque in 1187.
The ministry emphasized that such actions have been unprecedented since the 1948 Nakba, underscoring Israel’s blatant disregard for religious and international norms.
Since the Gaza war began on October 7, 2023, Israeli aggression has led to the martyrdom of 930 Palestinians, with over 7,000 more injured.
