Hezbollah’s intelligence chief killed
Israel Defense Forces said Monday that it killed the head of Hezbollahโs intelligence headquarters in an overnight airstrike on Beirut, as cross-border violence intensified following rocket and drone attacks on Israel.
The military identified the target as Hussein Makled, describing him as responsible for compiling intelligence assessments on Israeli troop movements and national security matters.
According to the army, Makled used various intelligence-gathering tools to build operational assessments and worked closely with senior Hezbollah commanders to plan attacks against Israel and its citizens.
Meanwhile, Lebanese authorities announced plans to ban Hezbollahโs military activities, hours after the Iran-backed group launched projectiles toward Israeli territory. Hezbollah said its assault came in response to the reported killing of Iranโs supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, during the opening phase of a joint Israeli-US operation against Iran on Saturday.
Retaliatory strikes widen
In response, Israel carried out extensive airstrikes across Lebanon overnight and throughout Monday, targeting sites it described as linked to militant operations. Several strikes hit areas in the Lebanese capital, according to local reports.
Additionally, an overnight strike in southern Beirut killed a senior commander from Palestinian Islamic Jihadโs armed wing, the al-Quds Brigades. The group identified him as Adham al-Othman, 41, and described him as its commander in the Lebanese arena.
The escalation marks one of the most significant flare-ups along the Israel-Lebanon front in recent months, raising concerns about broader regional instability.
