Israel announced on Tuesday that its forces had killed Ali Shadmani, the newly appointed head of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, in an airstrike carried out in the heart of Tehran.
Shadmani had been appointed by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei just days prior to the strike.
In a statement posted on its official X account, the Israeli army said:
“Following precise intelligence gathered by the Intelligence Directorate and a sudden operational opportunity overnight, Israeli Air Force jets targeted a manned command center in central Tehran, successfully eliminating Ali Shadmani, Iran’s War Chief of Staff and its top-ranking military commander.”
Shadmani was reportedly responsible for supervising military operations, authorizing missile and drone strikes, and shaping Iran’s overall military strategy toward Israel. His appointment came in the wake of the death of his predecessor, Lt. Gen. Gholamali Rashid, who was also killed in an Israeli strike the previous week.
The Israeli military described Shadmani’s death as “part of a broader campaign aimed at dismantling Iran’s senior military leadership,” and called it a significant blow to Iran’s chain of command.
Israeli officials have not released further operational details regarding the airstrike.
