TEHRAN/TEL AVIV – In a significant escalation of the Israel–Iran conflict, Israeli airstrikes struck Evin Prison in northern Tehran on Monday, according to Iranian judicial authorities. The facility—infamous for detaining political prisoners and opponents of the Islamic Republic—sustained damage, though casualty details remain unconfirmed.
“Iran’s latest strike by the Zionist regime hit Evin Prison, causing damage to parts of the facility,” reported Mizan Online, the judiciary’s official website.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed the operation, stating that military actions were conducted in Tehran, including targeting the prison. Katz emphasized Evin’s role in holding political detainees.
Earlier, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar shared video footage on X (formerly Twitter) portraying the attack on Evin Prison, accompanied by the message “¡Viva la libertad!” (“Long live freedom!”) in Spanish.
