ISLAMABAD: The Excise and Taxation Department has issued a strict warning to all Islamabad vehicle owners with unpaid motor vehicle taxes. Registrations of vehicles with outstanding dues will be cancelled if payments are not cleared by October 10, 2025.
According to department officials, red notices were already dispatched to defaulters whose payments remained pending as of June 30, 2025. As a result, their registrations were suspended. Officials confirmed that failure to settle the dues by the deadline will result in permanent cancellation of registration.
Heavy Penalties for Defaulters
The department clarified that once cancelled, registration can only be restored after payment of the full outstanding amount along with heavy fines. To facilitate taxpayers, special counters have been set up across Islamabad. However, authorities have stressed that no relaxation or concession will be provided after the due date.
This action is being carried out under the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965, which empowers the government to enforce tax compliance strictly.
Traffic Police to Enforce Licensing Rules
In a separate announcement, the Islamabad Traffic Police declared that strict enforcement of driving licence rules will begin on October 8, 2025. Drivers operating vehicles without a valid licence will face arrest, registration of cases, and impoundment of vehicles.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Nasir Rizvi has directed all officers to ensure complete implementation of this crackdown. He emphasized that the order applies equally to government and private drivers. Vehicles of unlicensed individuals will be detained at police stations until proper legal action is taken.
Compliance is Essential
The dual measures reflect Islamabad authorities’ determination to promote road safety and ensure tax compliance. Vehicle owners are strongly urged to clear their dues promptly and carry valid licences to avoid severe penalties.
