ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly dismissed recent allegations suggesting that its nationals are involved in the ongoing war in Ukraine, calling the claims “baseless” and “unverified.”
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Tuesday, Pakistan categorically rejected any suggestion that its citizens were fighting as foreign mercenaries in the conflict. The Foreign Office clarified that the Ukrainian government has neither provided any credible evidence nor formally communicated with Pakistan regarding the matter.
“There is no verifiable evidence to support these claims,” the Foreign Office spokesperson said. “Pakistan has not been officially notified of such allegations through diplomatic channels, and we will be seeking formal clarification from the Ukrainian authorities.”
The response from Islamabad came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky alleged that foreign fighters from countries including China, Pakistan, and parts of Africa were involved in combat operations against Ukrainian forces in the northeastern regions of the country. He vowed that Kyiv would respond accordingly.
Reacting to these remarks, Pakistan reiterated its long-standing position of neutrality in the conflict and expressed concern over being drawn into narratives without substantiation. The Foreign Office emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, particularly the peaceful resolution of international disputes.
“Pakistan firmly believes that the path to sustainable peace lies in constructive dialogue and diplomacy,” the spokesperson added. “We have always advocated for a peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict and continue to engage constructively with the international community in support of this goal.”
Islamabad also warned against the politicization of the war and urged all stakeholders to avoid making inflammatory or misleading statements that could undermine efforts for peace.
The Government of Pakistan maintains that spreading unverified claims about foreign involvement serves no constructive purpose and risks further escalation in an already volatile situation.
