ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police on Wednesday obtained arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and 94 other PTI workers in connection with a vandalism case stemming from last week’s protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
The warrants include prominent PTI leaders such as Sheikh Waqas Akram, Omar Ayub, Sher Afzal Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Aliya Hamza, Semabia Tahir, Shoaib Shaheen, and Ali Bukhari. The case was registered at Kohsar police station following violent incidents during the demonstration.
Authorities have confirmed that special teams will be deployed to apprehend the accused, ensuring compliance with the law.
Related Legal Developments
Imran Khan, currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail, faces mounting legal troubles. Earlier, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad placed him on a 14-day judicial remand in connection with a separate case filed at New Town police station.
The ATC, presided over by Judge Amjad Ali Shah, also extended his judicial remand in seven other cases tied to vandalism and unrest. This came after Khan was granted bail in the Toshakhana case but was immediately re-arrested on new charges.
Broader Crackdown on PTI
This development marks an escalation in the government’s crackdown on PTI leadership and workers, following allegations of violent protests and civil disturbances. Law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts to address unrest linked to the party’s recent activities.
