The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has announced new regulations for restaurants and food outlets aimed at strengthening hygiene standards and ensuring food safety across the federal capital.
The updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) make it mandatory for all chefs and waiters to wear caps while working, while food handlers are required to use safety caps at all times. Officials said the move is intended to promote cleanliness, prevent contamination, and safeguard public health.
According to the IFA, any restaurant or food establishment found violating these new hygiene rules will face strict action, including immediate sealing of the premises. The authority emphasized that the regulations are part of a broader strategy to raise food safety standards in Islamabad and align local practices with international hygiene protocols.
In addition to implementing the new SOPs, the Food Authority has urged citizens to play an active role in ensuring compliance by reporting food outlets where staff members are not adhering to the safety cap requirement. Officials said that public cooperation is essential to help maintain consistent hygiene practices throughout the city’s restaurant sector.
The Director of the Islamabad Food Authority has directed field teams to conduct regular inspections and surprise visits across various localities to monitor enforcement.
He stated that strict penalties will be imposed on violators and instructed inspection teams to ensure no restaurant or food point operates outside the new hygiene framework.
These measures are part of Islamabad’s broader efforts to enhance food safety, improve customer confidence, and ensure that all eateries meet basic health and cleanliness benchmarks. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining high public health standards and called on the hospitality industry to fully cooperate in implementing the new rules.
