A local court in Islamabad on Monday issued arrest warrants for opposition leaders Omar Ayub, Aamir Dogar, and Aamir Mughal for failing to appear in two cases related to the violation of Section 144.
Judicial Magistrate Shahzad Khan presided over the hearing and accepted exemption pleas filed on behalf of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and Shoaib Shaheen.
However, the court could not hear arguments on the acquittal applications of the accused.
The cases were registered at the I-9 police station against Barrister Gohar and other PTI leaders for allegedly violating the prohibitory order during protests.
The court adjourned the hearing until April 23.
Earlier, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad granted post-arrest bail to 56 workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who were detained during protests on November 26.
Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain announced the decision, allowing the accused to be released after submitting a surety bond of Rs5,000 each.
The workers were arrested under various charges registered at the Tarnol and Kohsar police stations during protests following PTI chief Imran Khan’s “final call” to demand the release of party members and the restoration of democracy.
Thousands of PTI supporters marched toward Islamabad on November 24, overcoming roadblocks and internet disruptions to reach the capital. However, the protests turned violent, resulting in the deaths of at least six people, including a police officer and three Rangers officials. On November 26, demonstrators entered Islamabad and attempted to breach the Red Zone.
