ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will lead the national delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisationโs Council of Heads of Government meeting in Moscow on November 17 and 18. The Foreign Office issued an official statement confirming his participation in the high-level event.
The statement says the CHG meeting will bring together the heads of government of Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It adds that the vice president of Iran and the foreign ministers of Pakistan and India will also attend the gathering. Officials expect wide representation at the annual event.
Expanded Participation From Observer States and Organisations
The Foreign Office notes that several observer states will join the meeting. The list includes Mongolia, Bahrain, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait and Turkmenistan. Moreover, international and regional organisations will also participate in the event.
These bodies include the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Democratic Socialists of America. Their presence highlights the growing diplomatic weight of the SCO platform.
Dar to Present Pakistanโs Regional Priorities
Deputy Prime Minister Dar will outline Pakistanโs perspective on major regional and global developments in his address. He will also present proposals that support stronger cooperation within the SCO region. Officials expect him to stress Pakistanโs commitment to deepening economic and connectivity links.
The Foreign Office says Dar will also discuss Pakistanโs preferred approaches for enhancing trade, finance and socio-economic coordination within the SCO framework. His speech will focus on strategic priorities that support shared development.
Role and Importance of the CHG Meeting
The CHG represents the second-highest decision-making forum within the SCO. It offers direction on economic, financial and commercial matters that affect member states. It also guides regional connectivity and cooperation initiatives among participating countries.
The CHG adopts joint communiquรฉs, statements and policy decisions that shape future collaboration. Its decisions influence key areas such as trade, investment and budgetary planning. The meeting in Moscow is therefore expected to produce outcomes with wide regional impact.
