The Consul General of Iraq in Karachi, Maher Mjhid Jejan, has reaffirmed the Iraqi Consulate’s commitment to serving as a bridge between the business communities of Iraq and Pakistan, with a particular focus on enhancing bilateral trade, investment, and tourism.
During his visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), Jejan emphasized that the reopening of the Iraqi Consulate in Karachi after 23 years marks a significant step toward strengthening longstanding Islamic and cultural ties, while opening new avenues for economic cooperation.
He assured business leaders that the Consulate is available round the clock to support and facilitate their ventures. Jejan proposed the formation of a joint working group to pinpoint sectors with strong potential for mutual trade and investment, and committed to maintaining regular engagement with the KCCI.
Highlighting Iraq’s rapid development and improving security environment, he urged Pakistani entrepreneurs to visit Iraq and explore its untapped market. He dismissed outdated concerns about safety, stating that people can now travel freely across the country.
Jejan also noted Iraq’s introduction of new investor-friendly laws, which will be shared with Pakistani chambers to help businesses capitalize on upcoming opportunities. He praised the quality of Pakistani products and expressed optimism about deeper commercial ties.
To enhance connectivity, the envoy proposed establishing a sea-link between Basra and Karachi, which could significantly improve logistics and foster stronger business relations.
The Consul General also announced the launch of business attestation services at the Consulate, with visa operations expected to begin within a month. Until then, Pakistani nationals can apply for business visas via the Iraqi Embassy in Islamabad or use the e-visa facility for a more convenient process.
