TEHRAN: Hundreds of thousands of Iranians flooded the streets of Tehran and more than 900 cities nationwide on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of the 1979 U.S. Embassy takeover, observed annually as the National Day of Fight Against Global Arrogance.
Students, clerics, and families marched while chanting anti-U.S. and anti-Israel slogans, including “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.” Participants carried Iranian flags and portraits of martyrs killed in U.S. and Israeli attacks, notably during last June’s 12-day war.
In Tehran, the main procession began at Palestine Square and ended at the site of the former U.S. embassy, now called the “Den of Espionage.” The event featured speeches, religious recitations, and a symbolic trial of former U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Exhibitions displayed decades of what organizers described as Western “crimes” against Iran. Iranian missiles and centrifuges were showcased, and U.S. and Israeli flags were burned as part of ritual defiance.
The official resolution issued at the rally called 13 Aban a “turning point” in Iran’s resistance against global hegemony. It reaffirmed Iran’s support for Palestinian rights, rejection of foreign intervention, and commitment to economic and military self-reliance under the leadership of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces warned Iran’s enemies had “lost the ability to commit aggression” after the “painful blows” suffered during the 12-day war. It vowed readiness to “strike decisively” against any attack.
Separately, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said the 1979 takeover was “a strategic choice between resistance and surrender,” accusing the U.S. embassy of serving as a CIA intelligence hub and calling Washington’s diplomacy a “cover for infiltration.”
