Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly sustained minor leg injuries during an Israeli missile strike last month that targeted a high-level meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, according to a report published by Fars News Agency and cited by Turkey’s Anadolu Agency on Saturday.
The missile strike occurred on June 17, while senior Iranian officials, including the heads of all three branches of government, were meeting in a fortified underground facility in western Tehran. The building, described as a secure section reserved for confidential deliberations, came under direct attack when six missiles struck its main entry and exit points.
According to Fars News, the method of the strike bore similarities to a previously attempted assassination targeting Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, indicating a highly strategic and premeditated operation.
During the incident, officials managed to escape using a pre-established emergency exit route. President Pezeshkian was reportedly injured during the chaotic evacuation but was able to exit the facility safely.
The nature of his injuries has been described as minor, specifically affecting his leg, and he has since continued performing his presidential duties without interruption.
Iranian authorities are now investigating the possibility of an internal security breach, given the precision with which the missiles targeted the facility. Fars News highlighted suspicions of an internal leak that may have provided Israeli intelligence with key operational details about the location and timing of the meeting.
The agency also criticized what it described as the silence of Western and Israeli-aligned media, accusing them of downplaying or ignoring what it called a blatant act of state terrorism.
It juxtaposed this with international outrage over religious decrees issued by Iranian leaders against U.S. and Israeli political figures, particularly U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The missile strike was part of a broader 12-day military confrontation between Israel and Iran that began on June 13, when Israeli forces launched coordinated airstrikes targeting Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian infrastructure.
According to Iran’s Health Ministry, the Israeli campaign resulted in the deaths of at least 606 people and injuries to more than 5,300 others.
In retaliation, Iran carried out missile and drone attacks against Israeli territory, leading to the deaths of at least 29 people and injuries to over 3,400, based on figures provided by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The intense conflict, which brought the two regional powers to the brink of full-scale war, concluded with a ceasefire brokered by the United States, which took effect on June 24.
