Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi arrived in Pakistan on Monday for a one-day diplomatic mission.
He is accompanied by a high-level delegation and is scheduled to hold meetings in Islamabad, including a significant discussion with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Diplomatic sources indicate that talks will center on strengthening bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan, as well as addressing the evolving regional situation—particularly in light of recent escalations between India and Pakistan.
Following his engagements in Islamabad, Araghchi and his delegation are expected to continue their regional outreach with a visit to India on Tuesday.
The visit comes in the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan after a deadly April 22 attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which claimed 26 lives. India has blamed Pakistan for the incident—a claim Islamabad strongly denies.
In response to the attack, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has spoken separately with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, offering condolences and emphasizing the importance of a united front against terrorism.
During his call with Sharif, President Pezeshkian expressed concern over escalating hostilities and reaffirmed Iran’s dedication to promoting regional stability.
Additionally, Foreign Minister Araghchi has communicated with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, reiterating Iran’s willingness to support dialogue between India and Pakistan to de-escalate the situation.
