Iran has extended its regret to Qatar over the discomfort caused by its recent missile strike targeting a US military base situated within Qatari territory, clarifying that the action was not intended to threaten or violate Qatar’s sovereignty.
Speaking in an interview with Arab media, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei expressed sorrow for the incident, saying, “We are sincerely sorry for any distress caused to our Qatari brothers and sisters.”
Baghaei emphasized that the missile strike was a direct response to US military actions against Iran and was in no way aimed at Qatar. He reiterated Iran’s deep respect for its relationship with Qatar, describing it as valuable and constructive in the context of regional diplomacy.
Addressing wider concerns about Iran’s strategic posture, Baghaei reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the peaceful pursuit of nuclear energy, asserting it as Iran’s legal right under international frameworks.
He also criticized the global narrative that has focused more on damage to nuclear infrastructure rather than addressing the legality of the US military actions. “The world should focus on condemning the unlawful nature of these strikes, rather than debating their success,” he said, warning that such misplaced priorities reflect a troubling global trend.
Baghaei concluded by stating that the recent American airstrikes represented a serious breach of international norms, diplomacy, and ethical standards.
