ISLAMABAD: As tensions between Pakistan and India continue to rise, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday, calling for calm and urging both nations to avoid further escalation.
According to Iranian state media, the two foreign ministers discussed the rapidly evolving regional security situation, with Araghchi emphasizing Iran’s commitment to regional peace and stability. He urged both sides to prioritize diplomacy over conflict.
Araqchi’s outreach followed his recent visit to New Delhi, where he met with Indian President Droupadi Murmu, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. During those talks, he conveyed Tehran’s hope that dialogue would defuse tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Iranian Foreign Ministry said Araqchi “highlighted the necessity of reducing tensions and promoting diplomacy in the current sensitive circumstances.”
The Pakistani Foreign Office also confirmed the call, stating that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar briefed his Iranian counterpart on Pakistan’s position. Dar reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to peace, making it clear that Pakistan does not seek escalation and remains focused on maintaining regional stability.
