Tehran alerted the United States, cautioning that it would promptly strike US bases and aircraft carriers if attacked. This comes in response to any escalation of US rhetoric. Simultaneously, the EU designated Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization. At the same time, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for nuclear negotiations aimed at preventing a regional crisis.
Iran Signals Swift and Decisive Military Response
An Iranian military spokesman confirmed the response would be immediate. Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia said US aircraft carriers have “serious vulnerabilities.” He added several US bases in the Gulf are “within the range of our medium-range missiles.” Furthermore, he warned that any miscalculation by the US would fail. “It won’t be a quick operation followed by a tweet,” he said.
In addition, Gulf officials hosting US forces expressed concern. They said a strike could plunge the region into chaos. It could also disrupt economies, affect global energy, and push oil and gas prices higher.
Regional Diplomacy Grows Amid EU Pressure
Meanwhile, Qatar’s Emir spoke with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian. They discussed ways to reduce tensions and maintain stability. At the same time, the EU added pressure. It designated Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization. EU President Ursula von der Leyen called it a justified response to the crackdown on protests.
However, Iran condemned the decision. Officials said it was “illogical, irresponsible, and spite-driven.” They also blamed foreign powers for instigating protests. Iranian authorities reported over 3,000 deaths, mostly security personnel and bystanders.
US Warnings and Nuclear Concerns Escalate the Situation
US President Donald Trump urged Tehran to act quickly, warning that time for a nuclear deal is slipping away. The US has recently stationed naval forces in the Middle East, with authorities stating they are ready, willing, and able to act. Meanwhile, Iran continues to demonstrate military readiness, with billboards in Tehran depicting a U.S. aircraft carrier under attack, signaling its defiant stance amid escalating tensions.
Analysts warn that missteps could ignite a broader conflict. They say the stakes include regional stability and global energy security. Therefore, diplomacy is crucial to avoid escalation.
