Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, thanked people of Pakistan for showing strong solidarity with Iran during the ongoing regional conflict. He expressed gratitude in a message posted in Urdu on X. He said the Iranian government and people appreciated Pakistanโs stance while Iran faced what he called aggression from the United States and Israel.
Pakistan expresses solidarity as tensions rise
Araghchi said Iran remained firm in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that the country would continue to show resilience and patience while relying on faith and national unity.
The message came as the Middle East conflict continues to intensify. The crisis began on February 28 after joint US-Israeli strikes targeted locations in Iran. The attacks also led to the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran launched retaliatory strikes against American military assets and bases in several Gulf countries, raising fears of wider regional instability.
Meanwhile, Pakistanโs Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Pakistan) has described Islamabadโs approach as that of a โbridge builder,โ seeking to reduce tensions while maintaining diplomatic balance in the region.
Diplomatic efforts and regional coordination
According to information provided by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan has opted to use the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement that was signed with Saudi Arabia last year to dissuade Iranian strikes in Saudi Arabia.
However, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been in contact with regional leaders since the start of the conflict. He also recently visited Saudi Arabia, arriving on March 12. During the visit, he held talks with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman.
Pakistan has attempted to maintain a neutral stance on the conflict at the United Nations Security Council. The country has condemned attacks by other nations on Iran. However, Pakistan has also expressed concern about the Gulf region and has called for immediate diplomacy.
Recently, Pakistan supported a Bahrain-led resolution condemning Iranโs retaliatory strikes.
