GALIBAF CRITICIZES ALLEGED TRUCE VIOLATIONS
Iranโs parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Wednesday rejected the prospect of a ceasefire and negotiations with the United States, calling them โunreasonableโ amid alleged violations of Tehranโs proposed truce framework. In a statement posted on X, he argued that recent actions undermined the foundation for any diplomatic engagement. It may be pointed out that he is part of the scheduled meeting on Friday in Islamabad.
Specifically, Ghalibaf pointed to three key issues: continued attacks in Lebanon, the reported entry of a drone into Iranian airspace, and the refusal to recognize Iranโs right to uranium enrichment. According to him, these developments directly contradict the principles outlined in Iranโs 10-point truce plan. As a result, he said, trust between the two sides has eroded further.
Moreover, Ghalibaf emphasized that Iranโs skepticism toward Washington stems from a long history of unmet commitments. He stated that repeated violations have reinforced Tehranโs belief that US assurances lack credibility.
DEEPENING TENSIONS COMPLICATE DIPLOMATIC PATH
Meanwhile, the remarks highlight growing tensions following recent attempts to de-escalate conflict between the two countries. Although officials had discussed a potential ceasefire, disagreements over key conditions have stalled progress. Consequently, both sides remain far from reaching a mutual understanding.
In addition, Ghalibaf argued that the alleged breaches occurred even before formal negotiations began. Therefore, he concluded that pursuing talks under such circumstances would lack logic and legitimacy. His comments signal a hardened stance within Iranโs leadership.
Furthermore, analysts warn that this development could complicate broader regional stability efforts. Without trust or clear commitments, diplomatic channels may remain frozen, increasing the risk of further escalation. For now, prospects for meaningful dialogue between Tehran and Washington appear increasingly uncertain.
