Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared on Tuesday that he is ready to sacrifice his life for the country, as tensions with the United States escalate. Writing on X, he said more than 14 million Iranians have already expressed willingness to defend the nation, calling it a moment of national commitment.
The statement came shortly after an Iranian official urged citizens to mobilise in response to potential threats against critical infrastructure. According to Associated Press, Alireza Rahimi called on young people, students, and professionals to form human chains around power plants to safeguard key national assets.
Call for civilian mobilisation amid threat warnings
Meanwhile, the appeal followed warnings from US President Donald Trump, who threatened strikes on Iranian power plants and bridges if Tehran failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway carries roughly one-fifth of global oil shipments, raising the stakes of the standoff.
Furthermore, Iranian officials signalled that any attack on domestic energy infrastructure could trigger retaliation against civilian targets across the region. Previous statements indicated potential strikes on Israeli facilities, including power plants and gas installations, if Iranโs infrastructure is hit.
Diplomatic efforts falter as deadline approaches
At the same time, negotiations between Washington and Tehran appear to be nearing collapse. US officials reportedly told mediators that key differences remain unresolved ahead of a looming deadline set by Trump.
In addition, Iran has rejected a temporary ceasefire proposal, instead demanding a full halt to hostilities and guarantees regarding shipping through Hormuz. Pakistan continues to act as a communication channel, but sources suggest chances of a breakthrough remain slim.
Therefore, the crisis continues to intensify, with both diplomatic and military risks increasing across the region.
