Iran has confirmed the death of Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, after he succumbed to severe injuries, according to Iranian media citing an official statement.
The confirmation comes days after Israel Katz announced that Israeli forces had targeted and killed Tangsiri in a precision strike. He stated that the operation eliminated the IRGC naval chief along with other senior commanders, describing it as a โprecise and lethalโ mission.
Iran also vowed to hit the commanders of the United States and Israel in retaliation for the killing of Iranian top leaders.
Meanwhile, Tangsiri was a key figure in Iranโs naval strategy and played a central role in operations linked to the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route. His death marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, particularly in the maritime domain.
Furthermore, earlier reports from US and Israeli officials had already indicated that he was killed in an airstrike, although Iran had not immediately confirmed the claim at the time.
The development highlights intensifying hostilities in the region, with both sides increasingly targeting high-ranking military leadership. Analysts warn that such strikes could further destabilize an already volatile Middle East situation and raise the risk of broader confrontation.
