TEHRAN – Experts are describing the 10-week Israeli offensive on Gaza as one of the most devastating conflicts in history.
An analysis of Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellite data by Corey Scher of the CUNY Graduate Center and Jamon Van Den Hoek of Oregon State University, specialists in mapping wartime damage, reveals that over two-thirds of structures in northern Gaza and a quarter of those in the southern area of Khan Younis have been destroyed.
Scher notes a noticeable change in Gaza’s appearance from space, stating, “Gaza is now a different color, a different texture.” Tehran Times published this report on Sunday.
The scale of destruction in just two months surpasses that seen in the U.S.-backed destruction of Aleppo city, the battle for Ukraine’s Mariupol, and even the allied countries’ bombardment of Germany during World War II when considering proportional comparisons.
Remarkably, the civilian death toll exceeds that of the fight against Daesh terrorists. The use of potent American-manufactured ordnance, including advanced bunker-buster bombs, has been a key factor in the extensive destruction and casualties,
