The United States has issued a stern warning to the Iranian government to cease all plotting against former President Donald Trump, stating that any attempt on his life would be regarded as an act of war.
US official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed that President Joe Biden has been kept informed about these threats and has instructed his team to take action against Iranian plots targeting Americans.
Under Biden’s direction, top US officials have communicated directly with high-ranking members of the Iranian government, making it clear that any threats against Trump or former officials would have serious repercussions. The official emphasized that the US would view any assassination attempt as an act of war.
Iran has denied any involvement in plotting against Trump, asserting that the US has historically interfered in its affairs, citing incidents such as the 1953 coup against a democratically elected prime minister and the 2020 killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in a US drone strike.
Soleimani was killed after intelligence indicated he was planning imminent attacks on US diplomats and military personnel in the region.
As Trump campaigns to return to the White House after his 2020 loss to Biden, his team disclosed on September 24 that he was briefed by US intelligence officials regarding the alleged threat from Iran.
White House National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savett condemned the threats as a serious matter of national security, stating, “Should Iran attack any of our citizens, including those who have served the United States, it will face severe consequences.”
He added that appropriate agencies are providing the former president’s security team with updated threat assessments, and Biden has reiterated that the Secret Service must receive all necessary resources to protect Trump.
