General Michael Erik Kurilla, the commander of US Central Command (Centcom), met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ), as reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday.
The discussions between the two focused on matters of mutual interest, particularly cooperation in regional security. The ISPR highlighted that both sides explored avenues for joint training and emphasized the importance of enhancing training interactions between Centcom and the Pakistan Army.
Acknowledging the Pakistan Army’s successes in the fight against terrorism, the visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s continuous efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, according to the ISPR.
Last December, General Munir made his inaugural visit to the US since assuming office in November 2022. During this visit, he met with top US officials, including the Centcom commander, at the Headquarters of the Central Command in Tampa Bay, Florida. Additionally, he visited the Centcom Joint Operations Centre, as per the ISPR.
The COAS also held meetings with key US officials, including Secretary of State Antony J Blinken, Secretary of Defense General (Retd) Lloyd J Austin, Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer, and Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Q Brown. These discussions led to agreements between Pakistan and the US to enhance cooperation in counter-terrorism and defense collaboration, according to the ISPR’s statement.
This exchange underscores the ongoing efforts of both countries to strengthen their bilateral relations, particularly in the realm of security and defense cooperation. Such engagements serve as a testament to the shared commitment to regional stability and peace.
