Shooting Incident
On Thursday, a gunman opened fire in a classroom at a university hospital campus in Rotterdam and a nearby house, resulting in multiple deaths, as per Dutch police.
Police arrested a 32-year-old suspect following reports of shots fired at the Rotterdam Medical Centre and a residence, where fires had also broken out. The extent of injuries at each location remained unclear.
Officers conducted searches at the hospital university premises to locate potential victims or individuals in hiding, according to Dutch news agency ANP.
Videos circulated online depicted police instructing students, some in medical gowns, to evacuate as heavily armed arrest teams arrived. One video showed a man in handcuffs wearing what appeared to be camouflage pants.
Subsequently, police confirmed multiple fatalities and initiated the process of informing the victims’ family members.
Also, caretaker Minister of Justice and Security Dilan Yesilgöz described the incident as “a very dark day.”
Police reported no indications of a second shooter and scheduled a press conference with local officials to provide further information. Overall, deadly shooting incident occurs at University in the Netherlands which took several lives.
