Thousands of people across Türkiye join pro-Palestinian demonstrations protesting against Israeli bombings on Gaza

Thousands of people across Türkiye took to the streets in pro-Palestinian demonstrations on Sunday, protesting Israel’s deadly war on Gaza, just one day before the conflict’s grim first anniversary.

According to the Anadolu Agency, protests occurred in over 20 provinces. In Istanbul, the country’s commercial hub, civil society groups gathered to express their support for Palestine. The capital, Ankara, also witnessed similar rallies, along with provinces such as Kirikkale, Nigde, Hakkari, Yalova, Trabzon, Artvin, Bayburt, Erzurum, Kars, Igdir, Erzincan, Ardahan, Sivas, Van, and Bitlis.

Other provinces, including Samsun, Cankiri, Amasya, and Sinop, held protests condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza. In Konya, demonstrators protested against Israel’s attacks on both Palestine and Lebanon.

Israel has continued its military offensive in Gaza, defying a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. Since Hamas’s incursion on October 7, 2023, Israeli strikes have killed nearly 41,900 people, most of them women and children, with over 97,000 others injured, according to local health authorities.

Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
