TEHRAN: Hundreds of thousands of people are converging on the University of Tehran located in the Iranian capital, where Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei will be leading the funeral prayer for the late President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian.
The two officials lost their lives on Sunday when their helicopter crashed in northwestern Iran due to severe weather conditions.
Their funeral processions began on Tuesday in the city of Tabriz and will continue until Friday.
Meanwhile, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, will lead the funeral prayer for the late President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and their accompanying local officials who perished in the tragic helicopter crash on Saturday.
The funeral prayer is scheduled to begin at 07:30 AM on Wednesday at the Tehran University main campus.
The bodies of the victims were brought to Tehran on Monday morning amidst national mourning rituals.
Among those who lost their lives in the helicopter crash were Ayatollah Al-e Hashem, the Leader’s representative to East Azerbaijan Province, Malek Rahmati, the province’s governor, along with the president’s security detail and the cabin crew.
