ISLAMABAD: Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has started hiring in India, posting job listings for positions in New Delhi and Mumbai, including roles for store managers and service technicians. This move follows a series of meetings between Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk and Indian officials, raising speculation about Musk’s growing business interests in the country.
Tesla’s push into India comes shortly after Musk’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington, further fueling discussions about potential business expansion. In addition to its electric vehicle efforts, Musk is also looking to introduce his satellite internet service, Starlink, in India, provided it meets local security regulations.
While India’s electric vehicle market is still developing, it presents significant growth potential for Tesla, especially as the company faces increased competition from Chinese manufacturers and struggles with a decline in annual sales.
India’s recent reduction in import taxes on electric vehicles for foreign automakers that commit to local production within three years has also made the market more accessible to Tesla.
