Sweden’s Envoy
The Saudi Arabian foreign ministry summoned Sweden’s Envoy and issued a strong condemnation of the Swedish authorities for repeatedly granting official permits to extremists, allowing them to burn and desecrate copies of the Holy Qur’an.
The ministry stated that this act was a systematic provocation of the feelings of millions of Muslims worldwide.
Protesters, including Salwan Momika, an Iraqi immigrant to Sweden burned the Qur’an outside a Stockholm mosque in June. He had received permission from the Swedish police to carry out the burning outside the Iraqi embassy on Thursday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted that these disgraceful acts, which violate all religious teachings must be stopped immediately.

In response to the situation, the ministry announced that it would summon the charge d’affaires of the Swedish embassy to deliver a protest note. The Ministry also urged the Swedish authorities to take all necessary measures to halt such actions.
Furthermore, the ministry emphasized the Kingdom’s unequivocal rejection of these acts. It said that such disgusting events only serve to fuel hatred between religions and impede dialogue between peoples.
Alongside the international community, Saudi Arabia stood in denouncing these incidents, and other countries.
Iraq expels Swedish diplomat
Meanwhile, on Wednesday Iraq expelled Sweden’s ambassador and recalled its top diplomatic representative from Sweden. Iraq took these decisions over the desecration of the Quran in the Nordic country.
Iraqi authorities took the decisions soon after protesters attacked the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad, setting fire to part of the building.
The tensions between Iraq and Sweden increased when an Iraqi national, who migrated to Sweden, set fire to a copy of the Quran in the Swedish capital of Stockholm last month.
Many countries in the world especially Muslim nations have strongly condemned the frequent incidents of desecration of Quran in Sweden.
