Russia troops captured another village, Chigari, in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, marking the latest modest territorial gain in their advance.
The defense ministry stated in a daily briefing on social media that Russian troops had “liberated the village of Chigari” in the Donetsk region.
On Saturday, Moscow reported that its forces had taken control of another small village in the same region, where Kyiv claims the fiercest fighting across the entire front line is occurring.
Since the start of the year, Russia has made a series of battlefield advances, beginning with the capture of the industrial hub Avdiivka in February.
However, progress has been slow as the conflict remains in a grueling phase, with neither side achieving a decisive breakthrough and both claiming to inflict heavy casualties on the other.
On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated his demand for Ukraine to fully withdraw from the region, along with three others in the south and east of the country, if it wants peace.
