Five new suspects connected to the deadly March attack at Moscow Crocus City Hall are now on trial for terrorism and weapons charges, according to the city’s court system on Thursday.
The March 22 attack, which left 145 dead and hundreds injured, stands as the deadliest attack in Europe in the past 20 years. More than 20 people, including four suspected gunmen, were arrested after the incident. The Islamic State affiliate ISIS-K claimed responsibility for the attack.
On Thursday, the Basmanny District Court in Moscow disclosed the names of five more defendants in a decision to extend their pre-trial detention until December 1. The charges against the men include participation in a terrorist organization, committing a terrorist act, and trafficking weapons and explosives.
In May, the Baza Telegram news channel, reportedly linked to Russia’s security services, revealed that the investigation had identified five additional suspects who were citizens of Tajikistan but had not been named publicly at the time.
The Moscow court identified the suspects as Shakhomdzhon Gadoyev, Zubaydullo Ismailov, Mustakime Soliev, Umedzhon Soliev, and Husein Khamidov. Photos released with the court’s statement showed the five men in a glass defendant’s cage inside the courtroom.
