MOSCOW: Russian investigators on Tuesday accused Ukraine of carrying out deadly explosions that destroyed two key bridges in border regions, killing at least seven people and injuring over 100 others.
According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, explosive devices were used to target a highway bridge in the Bryansk region and a railway bridge in the neighboring Kursk region late Saturday night. Both incidents are now being treated as acts of terrorism.
“It is clear that the terrorists, acting on the orders of the Kyiv regime, deliberately planned everything with maximum precision to ensure that hundreds of civilians would be caught in their attacks,” said Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko.
The Bryansk bridge explosion resulted in seven fatalities and 113 injuries, while the Kursk railway bridge incident injured three railway employees. Investigators reported finding remnants of explosive devices at both sites.
Although officials initially described the incidents as “detonations” and “terrorist acts,” those terms were temporarily removed from official communications. However, Tuesday’s statement marked a return to that language, directly attributing the blasts to Ukrainian operatives.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, and Kyiv has not issued an official response.
Petrenko added that with help from Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and Interior Ministry, those responsible for the “inhumane crimes” would be tracked down and prosecuted.
