X Account
On Tuesday, the X account of Egyptian-American comedian Bassem Youssef vanished unexpectedly, leaving his followers puzzled.
The account, which boasted nearly 12 million followers, disappeared without any official explanation or prior warning.
Bassem Youssef took to Instagram to address the situation. In his post, he expressed uncertainty about whether or when his X account would be reinstated.
He also cautioned his followers about potential impersonators, emphasizing that any other accounts claiming to be him on X were not authentic.
Youssef made it clear that he did not wish to make any media statements or participate in interviews regarding the disappearance of his account at that moment.
The cause behind the removal of Youssef’s X account remains unclear. Before the account was taken down, Youssef had posted a final message discussing the topic of antisemitism.
He remarked that the accusation of antisemitism used to evoke significant fear, but he observed that it had become a tactic employed to suppress conversations and intimidate people.
Youssef’s post highlighted his frustration with what he saw as the overuse and abuse of this fear tactic.
He invited his followers to express their own feelings about being labeled antisemitic, asserting that he was no longer intimidated by such accusations.
Youssef’s comments on social media and his critique of geopolitical issues often attract significant attention. Last October, he gained considerable visibility following an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan.
During this interview, Youssef offered a pointed and humorous critique of Israel’s actions in Gaza, which had been ongoing for less than a month at that time. His remarks resonated widely and contributed to a broader conversation about the conflict.
The comedian’s wife, Hala Diab, who hails from Gaza, has also been vocal in her criticisms of Israel, adding another layer of personal and political context to Youssef’s commentary.
Bassem Youssef, a former cardiothoracic surgeon, has been residing and working in the United States since around 2015.
His transition from medicine to comedy has made him a prominent figure in both entertainment and political commentary.
Despite the current uncertainty surrounding his X account, Youssef remains active on other social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, continuing to engage with his audience.
