Before concluding his five-day visit to China, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Saturday that Pakistan would send as many as 1,000 students to the brotherly country for advanced training in the agriculture sector.
This significant announcement was made during the Prime Minister’s visit to the Yangling Agricultural Demonstration Base in Xi’an, as reported by Radio Pakistan. The visit highlighted the growing agricultural cooperation between the two nations.
During his visit, PM Shehbaz Sharif also extended an invitation to China’s North West Agriculture and Forestry University to establish a campus in Pakistan. He directed Pakistan’s ambassador to China and relevant authorities to finalize the necessary arrangements with Chinese officials.
Prior to these announcements, the Prime Minister toured various sections of the facility. He viewed Pakistani products displayed at the Pakistan Pavilion and observed a demonstration of the vertical farming method at a modern plant production factory. This visit showcased the advancements in agricultural technology and practices.
“Pakistan is striving to modernize its agriculture sector to increase the per acre yield of crops. Enhancing agricultural exports is one of our top priorities,” PM Shehbaz conveyed to the Chinese officials, emphasizing the importance of modern agricultural techniques.
Additionally, the Prime Minister received a detailed briefing on the operations at the Yangling Base. He learned that 26 countries were engaged in agricultural research at the base, with Pakistan being the first to participate. He was also informed about the involvement of Pakistani universities and scientists in the ongoing research at Yangling Base.
Following the visit, PM Shehbaz and his high-level delegation returned to Pakistan. Throughout his trip, the Prime Minister held productive meetings with Chinese leaders, officials, businessmen, and investors, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties.
The visit was undertaken at the invitation of Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, highlighting the strong diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
