PIA Passenger Arrested for Assaulting Crew Over In-Flight Smoking Ban

A passenger aboard Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK749, traveling from Islamabad to Paris, was arrested by French authorities after violently assaulting a female flight attendant for enforcing the no-smoking rule.

The incident occurred mid-flight when the passenger, identified as Safeer, attempted to smoke despite several warnings from the cabin crew. According to a PIA spokesperson, the situation escalated when a female flight attendant intervened to stop him from smoking. The passenger not only ignored the warnings but also verbally abused the staff before physically assaulting the stewardess by twisting her arm and striking her on the back.

The passenger then continued his aggressive behavior, targeting the flight attendant and the captain, though the crew managed to confiscate his cigarette. The captain quickly informed French air traffic controllers about the situation and requested the presence of law enforcement upon landing at Paris airport.

Upon arrival, French police boarded the aircraft, arrested the unruly passenger, and recorded statements from the affected crew members. A medical examination was conducted on the staff, and a formal police report was filed.

A PIA spokesperson praised the crew for their professionalism throughout the ordeal, stating, “The crew and captain handled the situation effectively, ensuring the safety of all passengers.” The spokesperson also confirmed that the passenger has been blacklisted and will no longer be allowed to fly with PIA. “French laws are stringent in such matters, and we trust no leniency will be shown in this case,” the spokesperson added.

The airline reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the safety and dignity of its staff and passengers, warning that any breach of aviation protocols will be addressed firmly in line with international law.
