ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar pledged the government’s complete backing to the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for initiating public welfare projects in Pakistan.
During a meeting with UNICEF’s representative in Pakistan, Abdullah Fadil, PM Kakar affirmed, “The government will provide all possible facilities to UNICEF for launching welfare projects in education, health, and other sectors.”
Abdullah Fadil briefed the prime minister on UNICEF’s initiatives in various areas of Pakistan, highlighting that over the last five years, approximately US$1 billion worth of projects had been implemented across fields such as humanitarian aid, clean drinking water, food supply, education, and health.
PM Kakar commended UNICEF Pakistan for successfully initiating several public welfare projects. He emphasized the special significance of UNICEF’s role in the anti-polio drive in Pakistan, noting a positive shift in public perception due to the collaborative efforts of the government and UNICEF.
The interim prime minister also praised UNICEF for its actions in the education sector in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, despite criticism from India. Kakar urged Abdullah Fadil to formulate a new and effective strategy for providing education to out-of-school children in Pakistan.
He expressed support for UNICEF’s initiatives in introducing modern technology to the education sector in underdeveloped areas, stating that leveraging technology could significantly reduce the country’s illiteracy rate by granting students in remote areas access to information.
PM Kakar assured full government support for UNICEF’s projects aimed at creating job opportunities for the youth.
