ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has issued a stern warning to Iran following a breach of its airspace that resulted in the tragic deaths of two Pakistani individuals and injuries to others, according to a statement from the Foreign Office.
The incident, occurring in the “Green Mountain” area, involved Iranian airstrikes targeting what they claimed were bases of a terrorist organization in Pakistan. Pakistan strongly condemned the violation of its sovereignty, emphasizing the unacceptable nature of the act despite existing communication channels between the two countries.
The Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, conveyed that a formal protest had been lodged with Iranian authorities, and the Iranian Charge d’affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a strong condemnation.
The spokesperson highlighted that such unilateral actions undermined good neighborly relations, jeopardizing bilateral trust and confidence. Pakistan reiterated its stance on the need for coordinated regional action against terrorism, emphasizing the shared threat it poses.
In a separate development, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched missile attacks on alleged terrorist targets in Syria and Iraq’s Kurdistan region, leading to casualties and drawing condemnation from the United States.
The US criticized Iran’s actions as “reckless,” warning of the destabilizing impact on Iraq. In response, Iraq recalled its ambassador from Tehran for consultations, rejecting Iran’s claim that it targeted an Israeli intelligence base in the missile strike on Arbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan.
