ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has voiced profound concerns regarding the escalating tensions in the Middle East following Iran’s attack on Israel, characterizing it as a “failure of diplomacy.”
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan closely monitored the unfolding situation, emphasizing the breakdown of diplomatic efforts evident in the current events. Tehran’s retaliation against Israel, with over 300 drones and missiles launched since Saturday, stemmed from an Israeli airstrike on its Damascus consulate, resulting in casualties including senior IRGC commanders.
Israeli military sources confirmed damage to a southern military installation from Iranian missiles, although the majority were intercepted. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels also joined the fray by targeting Israel with drones after Iran’s assault.

Iran cautioned against Israeli retaliation, warning of a larger-scale response, and cautioned the United States against backing Israeli military action. Pakistan urged all parties to exercise restraint and work towards de-escalation to restore stability and peace in the region.
The statement underscored the responsibility of the UN Security Council in maintaining international peace, noting Pakistan’s advocacy for international intervention to prevent further escalation and secure a ceasefire in Gaza. Several concerned nations, including China and Saudi Arabia, echoed calls for calm.
Responding to Israel’s request, the UNSC convened, while G7 leaders planned to discuss the crisis prompted by Italy’s presidency. The international community remained vigilant amid escalating tensions, emphasizing the urgency of diplomatic solutions to avert further conflict.
