Pakistan and Turkmenistan have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across a range of strategic areas during a high-level meeting between Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedow.
The engagement took place as part of Chairman Gilani’s official visit to Turkmenistan, accompanied by a delegation of Pakistani senators. During their discussions, both leaders exchanged views on shared interests and explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration in political, economic, energy, education, transport, and humanitarian sectors.
Chairman Gilani conveyed greetings from Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with their best wishes for the continued prosperity of the Turkmen people. President Berdimuhamedow extended a warm welcome to the Pakistani delegation and reciprocated the goodwill towards Pakistan’s leadership.
President Berdimuhamedow emphasized that Turkmenistan places high importance on its ties with Pakistan, particularly in the realm of parliamentary diplomacy. He noted that parliamentary engagement serves as a vital bridge for strengthening bilateral relations and fostering mutual understanding between the two nations.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the ongoing cooperation and agreed to enhance efforts in existing areas of partnership. They acknowledged that relations have been progressing constructively in the fields of trade, energy, education, and transportation, and reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding this cooperation.
He highlighted the contribution of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, which facilitates legislative exchange and encourages diplomatic dialogue between lawmakers of both countries.
Additionally, the two countries reiterated their mutual support for a multilateral approach to international relations, underlining their dedication to global peace, development, and diplomatic dialogue.
The visit is expected to provide fresh impetus to parliamentary diplomacy and further consolidate the friendly and longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Turkmenistan, paving the way for more robust and diversified bilateral engagements in the future.
