ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to strengthen Pakistan-Turkey relations, emphasizing the historical and brotherly ties between the two nations.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz lauded Erdogan’s leadership, which he credited for Turkey’s remarkable progress, and called for expanded economic cooperation between the two countries.
The leaders discussed achieving the $5 billion bilateral trade target and agreed to enhance collaboration in emerging sectors, including information technology, agriculture, and green technology. They also emphasized strengthening partnerships in economic, trade, and defense areas.
Both leaders reaffirmed their mutual support for each other’s national causes, including Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir and Turkey’s position on Cyprus. They condemned Israeli atrocities against Palestinians and reiterated their steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.
Regional issues, including the situations in the Middle East and Syria, were also addressed. President Erdogan highlighted Turkey’s deep cultural and religious ties with Pakistan and emphasized the importance of promoting regional peace and stability. He also praised PM Shehbaz’s efforts to stabilize Pakistan’s economy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz invited President Erdogan to co-chair the upcoming Strategic Cooperation Council session in Islamabad.
Pakistani ministers Ishaq Dar and Attaullah Tarar accompanied PM Shehbaz during the meeting.
