Pakistan and Russia Discuss Bilateral Trade and Connectivity Strategies

ISLAMABAD: In a significant diplomatic engagement, Minister for Communications, Board of Investment, and Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan met with Russia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P. Khorev, to discuss various aspects of mutual interest and bilateral cooperation. The meeting focused on enhancing road connectivity between Russia and Pakistan to bolster trade and cargo activities.

Minister Abdul Aleem Khan highlighted Pakistan’s eagerness to establish road connections that would link Russia through Central Asian countries, ultimately reaching Karachi Port. Such connectivity initiatives are seen as pivotal for fostering robust bilateral trade relations and facilitating commerce among neighboring countries.

“Pakistan values its trade relations with Russia, given its substantial role in regional dynamics,” stated Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, underscoring the importance of South Asia and Central Asia as crucial trade partners. He expressed Pakistan’s readiness to attract investments from these regions, citing his recent visits to Central Asian countries as part of these efforts.

Ambassador Albert P. Khorev reciprocated the sentiment, emphasizing Russia’s keen interest in strengthening economic ties with Pakistan. He affirmed Russia’s commitment to providing financial and technical support for various projects in Pakistan, highlighting the strategic significance of the road network linking China, Pakistan, and Central Asia. Additionally, Russia expressed its intent to establish road connectivity via Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan, envisioning a robust trade corridor.

Regarding bilateral air connectivity, discussions included the possibility of initiating direct flights between Islamabad, Karachi, and Moscow, aiming to facilitate easier travel and enhance people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Federal Secretary of Communications Ali Sher Mehsud also participated in the meeting, providing insights into Pakistan’s policies and the Department of Communications’ efforts in developing road networks spanning China, Afghanistan, Central Asia, and beyond.

Overall, the meeting underscored Pakistan and Russia’s mutual commitment to deepening their economic partnership and exploring new avenues for collaboration across various sectors, reflecting a shared vision of regional prosperity and connectivity.
