ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Azerbaijan have signed 15 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
The signing ceremony took place at the Prime Minister’s House, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Key agreements include a Preferential Trade Agreement signed by Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Economy Sahib Mammadov. This agreement aims to facilitate trade between the two nations.
Additionally, an MoU was signed between the foreign ministries of both countries to enhance consular affairs, and another agreement focused on the privatization of state properties, signed by Pakistan’s Minister for Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan.
The two nations also established a framework for transit trade and signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on law and justice, strengthening legal ties. The cultural exchange program for 2024-2029 was also a significant highlight, promoting cultural connections between the two countries.
In the realm of technology, an MoU was signed on cooperation in information and communication technologies. There are plans for collaborative efforts in literature, with an agreement between Azerbaijan’s Nizami Ganjavi Institute and Pakistan Academy of Literature.
Other agreements include establishing twinning links between Baku and Islamabad, scientific cooperation, and an Air Services Agreement to enhance connectivity.
These developments signal a commitment from both governments to bolster their partnership and explore new avenues for cooperation in various fields.
As both nations look to deepen their relationship, there is optimism that these agreements will pave the way for increased trade and cultural exchanges, ultimately benefiting their economies and fostering greater mutual understanding.
