Old Enemies, New Pipeline Friends: Russia, Pakistan agree to build gas pipeline

Russia, Pakistan agree to build gas pipeline. The pipeline project is a flagship strategic venture between Pakistan and Russia that would strengthen bilateral cooperation

Pakistan and Russia on Friday signed an inter-government agreement (IGA) to develop Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline for gas transportation from Karachi to Kasur. Locally here the Russian Ambassador Called on Army chief, in connection with the same issue.

Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov and Pakistan’s ambassador in Moscow Shafqat Ali Khan signed a protocol on the amendments to the IGA on North-South Gas Pipeline Project in Moscow, according to the Pakistan Embassy in Russia.

As per the protocol, the project has been renamed as “Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline”.

Russian ambassador calls on General Qamar Javed Bajwa

Russian ambassador to Pakistan Danila V. Ganich called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at GHQ.

During the meeting matters of mutual interest, regional security situation, enhanced bilateral and defence cooperation and Afghan peace process were discussed. 

The army chief said that peace in Afghanistan is a common goal. Both reiterated mutual efforts towards achieving the goal. He also said that Pakistan values its relations with Russia and hoped for furthering military to military relations between the two countries. 

General Qamar Javed Bajwa appreciated the recent visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Pakistan and hoped for further diplomatic engagements at a higher level.
