Normalcy restored at Chaman border a day after second attack of Afghan forces, Friendship Gate reopened today

CHAMAN/ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan-Afghanistan border point at Chaman became normal on Friday morning as both the sides agreed to a ceasefire.

On Thursday, a civilian and 16 other people were injured when Afghan security forces attacked civilians on Pakistan’s side of Chaman border.

However, after high-level diplomatic contacts between the two countries, situation became normal at Chaman border today and the Friendship Gate was opened this morning.

Officials said that Afghan government has, once again, apologised for second attack on Pakistani civilians.

Meanwhile, Levies personnel said that Afghan forces fired multiple artillery rounds upon the civilian population around the Boghra Road and Custom House areas. Pakistani forces also gave a befitting response to Afghan shelling on Thursday.

Authorities had said that the clashes broke out over the intervention of Afghan forces during the repair of the fence in the Sheikh Lal Muhammad sector of the border.
