Missile
On Sunday morning, a surface-to-surface missile was fired from Yemen towards central Israel, prompting air raid sirens to sound in Tel Aviv and across the central region of the country.
The missile landed in an unpopulated area around 6:35 a.m. local time (0335 GMT), causing no injuries, according to a statement from the Israeli military.
The missile launch triggered immediate alarm as sirens blared, sending residents rushing to seek shelter.
The Israeli military confirmed that the missile, which had been identified as crossing into central Israel from the east, fell in an open field. The military assured the public that there were no casualties reported from the incident.
Residents reported hearing loud explosions in the area, which the military attributed to the activation of missile interceptors.
These interceptors are part of Israel’s defensive systems designed to protect against incoming threats.
The military has stated that its protective guidelines for residents remain unchanged despite the incident.
A Reuters witness observed smoke rising from an open field in central Israel, but it was unclear whether the smoke was due to the missile impact or debris from the interceptor missiles. The Israeli military is investigating the exact cause of the smoke.
This incident follows a previous attack in July, when Iran-aligned Houthi rebels from Yemen launched a long-range drone at Tel Aviv, resulting in one fatality and four injuries.
In response, Israel conducted a significant airstrike targeting Houthi military positions near Yemen’s Hodeidah port, which resulted in at least three deaths and 87 injuries.
On the same day as the missile attack from Yemen, the Israeli military also reported that 40 projectiles were fired towards Israel from Lebanon.
These projectiles were either intercepted by defense systems or landed in open areas, with no injuries reported from these incidents either.
Overall, the situation remains tense, but the defensive measures and protocols in place appear to have mitigated the impact of these missile and projectile attacks.
The Israeli military continues to monitor the situation closely and maintain its defense posture to safeguard its citizens.
