Kuwait has taken substantial action in deporting over 25,000 expatriates between January and August 19, 2023. This averages to approximately 108 expatriates expelled each day, primarily due to their violations of residence and labor regulations.
This initiative was prompted by a directive from Sheikh Talal Al Khaled, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The directive’s objective is to enhance the nation’s protection against individuals who breach the law, especially those engaged in illicit activities.
Among the deportees are 10,000 women who have transgressed various laws. Additional reasons for deportation encompass drug misuse and distribution, panhandling, and engagement in activities deemed harmful to national security.
A high-ranking security source has underscored the country’s unwavering commitment, revealing a comprehensive campaign that targets an estimated 100,000 individuals currently residing in Kuwait in violation of national laws.
Sources suggest that by the end of 2023, the tally of deportees might exceed 35,000.
This escalating clampdown aligns with Sheikh Talal Al Khaled’s call to intensify efforts aimed at upholding security, rectifying the demographic balance, and eradicating irregular employment. Companies or sponsors that offer shelter to such violators will be subject to severe penalties.
