Amazon founder Jeff Bezos reclaimed his position as the world’s second-richest person on Wednesday, just a day after being surpassed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, according to Forbes. At 60 years old, Bezos remains behind Bernard Arnault, the 75-year-old magnate of LVMH, who holds the title of the world’s richest person.
Bezos’ net worth now stands at $201.5 billion, thanks to a $511 million daily increase driven in part by a slight rise in Amazon shares, which climbed over 0.5% by noon on Wednesday. This resurgence helped Bezos regain his position from Musk.
Meanwhile, Musk, aged 52, saw his net worth drop to $198.4 billion after Tesla shares fell by 3% on Wednesday, bringing them down to roughly $181 per share. Despite this setback, Tesla shares have rebounded nearly 28% over the past month. This recovery has been partially attributed to a reported agreement between Tesla and Chinese internet giant Baidu to bring Tesla’s electric vehicles to China.
Musk, who leads Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and X, had maintained a consistent presence in the top two spots on Forbes’ real-time billionaire list from August 2021 until March 6, when Bezos briefly knocked him down to third place. Since then, the two billionaires have been engaged in a fierce competition for the top positions, with the lead changing hands 13 times in March alone.
Bernard Arnault, the world’s richest individual, has a net worth of approximately $205.9 billion, keeping him $5 billion ahead of Bezos despite a significant decline in Arnault’s net worth on Wednesday. This margin allows Arnault to maintain his lead, even as Bezos and Musk continue their back-and-forth battle for the second spot.
