Israeli General: Israel Unable to Defend Itself in Regional War Without US Assistance

Regional War

According to Israeli Reserve General Itzhak Brik, Israel’s ability to effectively defend itself in a regional war would be severely compromised without support from the United States.

This warning comes amid growing concerns about the potential for a broad regional conflict, following Israel’s recent high-profile strikes against Hezbollah and Hamas leaders.

Brik’s comments were reported by Hebrew Channel 12, highlighting the increasing anxiety about a possible large-scale conflict in the wake of Israel’s assassination of top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut on July 30, and Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran the following day.

These attacks have been attributed to Tel Aviv, intensifying the already fraught situation in the region.

The United States has been a significant source of military support for Israel, supplying $11 billion worth of arms since Israel’s war on Gaza began last October.

Despite this, Brik warned that if Israel were to launch a pre-emptive strike against Hezbollah and Iran, it could trigger a regional war that Israel would struggle to fight effectively without American assistance.

Brik expressed concern that some voices within Israel are advocating for a pre-emptive attack without fully understanding the potential consequences.

He noted that such a move would almost certainly lead to a regional conflict, with daily attacks on Israeli population centers, power stations, gas platforms, transportation infrastructure, and military bases from thousands of missiles and drones.

According to Brik, the Israeli army does not currently have the capacity to handle a regional war on its own.

He emphasized that while some argue a pre-emptive strike could offer an advantage in an unavoidable conflict, the reality is that such an action would likely escalate the situation to a full-scale regional war.

In his view, even with a pre-emptive strike, the Israeli military lacks a comprehensive strategy to win a regional war and would heavily rely on US support.

Brik’s analysis underscores Israel’s dependence on the US for its military resilience. He concluded that without American assistance, Israel would be unable to endure or succeed in a prolonged regional conflict, further stressing the critical nature of the US-Israel military alliance.
